Christopher A. DeFreeuw will present a tuba recital and Teresa I. Mejia will present a soprano voice recital on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Bridgewater College.
Music majors Christopher A. DeFreeuw and Teresa I. Mejia will present a junior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the Concert Hall in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For his tuba recital, DeFreeuw will perform three movements, “Allegro Maestoso,” “Andante Expressivo” and “Allegro con Brio” from Suite for Tuba by Don Haddad. He will also perform Sonatina for Tuba and Piano by Halsey Stevens and Concertino for Tuba by James Curnow.
DeFreeuw is the son of Brian and Dona DeFreeuw of Suffolk, Va. DeFreeuw is a member of the Symphonic Band and performs on bass trombone for the Jazz Ensemble. He is the low brass section leader of the Pep Band. He is a member of the Concert Choir and the Chorale. He serves as historian of the campus chapter of National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
DeFreeuw studies tuba under Richard Adams, adjunct in music at Bridgewater College. Dr. Tonya Holland, adjunct in music at the college, will accompany DeFreeuw on piano.
For her soprano voice recital, Mejia will perform Un moto di gioia by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Sento nel core and O del mio amato ben by Stefano Donaudy. She will also perform On a Little Bird and Clouds by Ned Rorem, Al Amor by Fernando Obradors and El Majo Discreto by Enrique Granados.
Mejia’s recital also includes Die Nacht by Richard Strauss, Meine Liebe ist grun by Johannes Brahms and “One Summer’s Day” by Joe Hisaishi, from the movie Spirited Away.
Mejia is the daughter of Juan and Ana Mejia of Front Royal, Va. Mejia is a member of the Concert Choir, the Chorale and NAfME.
Mejia studies voice under Dr. Melissa Sumner Swisher, adjunct in music at Bridgewater. Lacey Johnson, instructor of music at the college, will accompany Mejia on piano.
The recital is free and open to the public.
