Dr. K. Gary Adams, Professor of Music, Emeritus, who taught at Bridgewater College for 30 years, died on June 2, 2024. He was 79.
Adams was born in Ardmore, Okla. He attended Baylor University and earned a doctorate in musicology from the University of North Texas. Before coming to Bridgewater, Adams taught music at Carl Albert Junior College (now Carl Albert State College) and Dallas Baptist College (now University).
Adams began his career at Bridgewater as an Assistant Professor of Music in 1982. He served on numerous College committees and founded the Bridgewater chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa. He held membership in the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda and the American Musicological Society. In recognition of his excellence as an educator, Adams received the Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award from Bridgewater in 2008.
Adams also coauthored Claudio Monteverdi: A Guide to Research and wrote William Schuman: A Bio-Bibliography, two books highlighting the lives and works of the composers, and published articles in music journals.
Adams is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Adams, their sons, Evan Adams and Brian Adams, and their sons’ families.
