Bridgewater College senior Morgan Pangle received the Merlin and Dorothy Faw Garber Award for Christian Service.
The award is named in memory of the late Dr. Merlin Garber and his wife, Dorothy, who were Bridgewater College alumni and deeply involved in the life of the Church of the Brethren as pastors. The annual award honors outstanding Christian service.
Pangle is a history and political science major from Staunton, Va. At BC, he was involved in BC’s Spiritual Life Board and a member of Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) for which he led men’s Bible study. Pangle is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society.
He student taught social studies at Harrisonburg High School and also worked as a reading specialist at Ottobine Elementary in Dayton, Va., and as a camp counselor at Brethren Woods Camp and Retreat Center in Keezletown, Va. Pangle also serves as an 11th-grade youth leader at Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.
Pangle’s post-graduation plans are to teach social studies in Virginia at the middle or high school level.
“My goal is to provide equitable and culturally responsive teaching to wherever I am given the opportunity to teach,” he says.
