Dorsey Named New Esports Program Director

Jocef Dorsey

Bridgewater College Vice President for IT and Chief Information Officer Kristy Rhea is pleased to announce Jocef Dorsey as the new Esports Program Director.

“We are excited to have Jocef join the Bridgewater community. He has great energy and enthusiasm about growing the esports program here at BC,” Rhea said.

Competitive online gaming is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. Bridgewater launched a varsity esports program in 2022, joining more than 350 colleges and universities across the country. BC has teams that compete in League of Legends, Super Smash Brothers and Marvel Rivals. They will compete in the National Esports Collegiate Conference this spring.

Dorsey comes to Bridgewater from Bowie State University where he served as Esports Director and Head Coach. He led their Marvel Rivals team to win their first ever tournament and the team placed Top 250 in the Marvel Rivals Championship series. He has also taught courses for the Howard (Md.) County Library System and coached youth esports teams for Code Ninjas.

“My coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, communication, teamwork and continuous improvement,” Dorsey said. “I am particularly excited about the opportunity to mentor students interested not only in competition, but also in broadcasting, production, social media, graphic design and event management.”

Dorsey graduated from Howard Community College in 2020 with an A.A. in business administration and from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2024 with a B.S. in marketing.

Rhea said that while the goal is to build a competitive esports team at BC, there is room for students of any skill level to participate.
