Dr. Amanda Campbell, Professor of Health and Human Sciences, was named College/University Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Dr. Jamie Frueh, Associate Provost and W. Harold Row Professor of International Studies, received a Distinguished Scholar award from the Education and Learning in International Affairs Section of the International Studies Association during its annual convention.

Dr. Stanley Galloway, Professor of English, co-edited Savor: Poems for the Tongue, published by Friendly City Books. Poems in the collection assess the human relationship with food.

Dr. Bobbi Gentry, Associate Professor of Political Science, was named to the newly formed Editorial Advisory Board of the Publications Policy Committee of the American Political Science Association which will oversee the development and publication of two new book series.

Dr. Sevinj Iskandarova, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, was recognized with a Woman in Education first place award, Rising Star first place award and Emerging Leader third place award at the 2024 Women Changing the World Americas Awards.

Dr. Martin Kalb, Associate Professor of History, published an article in the South African Historical Journal, “Camel Imports and Transport Fantasies in German Southwest Africa, 1884-1915.” Kalb also contributed chapters to two books: Tobacco in Global Perspective, 1780-1960: Trade, Knowledge, Labour (Palgrave) and Stadt der Kolonien: Wie Bremen den deutschen Kolonialismus prägte (City of Colonies: How Bremen Shaped German Colonialism).

Dr. Tamara Johnstone-Yellin, Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Science, co-authored a paper, “Effect of herbivory on the nutritional value for white-tailed deer of six hardwood species in the Allegheny Forest,” published by the Journal of Fish and Wildlife Management.

Dr. Edgar Lickey, Associate Professor of Biology, co-authored “Recent fieldwork and fungarium studies double known diversity of Chlorosplenium and improve understanding of species distributions,” which was published in the online journal Mycologia.

Dr. Jenny Martin, Associate Professor of Education, was selected as a 2024 Affiliate Intellectual Freedom Award honoree by the National Council of Teachers of English and the Virginia Teachers of English.

Dr. Brandon Marsh, Associate Professor of History, gave an invited talk on “Early British Diplomacy in Pakistan: Colonial Legacies in Political Reporting” at Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, in London last summer.

Dr. Nuraddeen Nuhu, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, published an article, “Exploiting a non-mainstream financial scheme to innovate: SMEs in the developing world,” in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior and Research.

Dr. Barnabas Otoo, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, and two BC students—Ifeatu Udokwu ’26 and Nadia Jacobs ’25—presented their research, “Exploring Ăź-lactones as Potential Alternatives in the Fight Against Antibiotic Resistance,” at the annual meeting of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.

Dr. Ken Overway, Associate Professor of Chemistry, authored a paper, “Turning Trash into Treasure: Using Old Optical Spectrometers as Learning Tools in Instrumental Analysis,” published in the Journal of Chemical Education.

Dr. Kevin M. Pallister, Associate Professor of Political Science, authored a new book, Elections in Latin America: Campaigns, Voters, and Institutions, published by Rowman & Littlefield.

Dr. Leona Sevick, Provost and Professor of English, has published her second full-length collection of poems, The Bamboo Wife, with Trio House Press.
